Made by Sam (Dear Cyrus)
Dear Cyrus,
Happy New Year! I hope your festivities last night were fun and that everyone enjoyed your tortilla soup! A few weeks ago when we got udon, I told you I wanted to write some "open letters", and this shall be the first one.
I'd like to tell you about my 2024 new year's resolution: Make Something Every Day.
More specifically, every day for the next year, I intend to make something tangible and share it with at least one person. When I say "something tangible", I'm being intentionally vague. I'm not even completely sure yet about how I want to define what is Enough, what counts or doesn't count, but that's okay -- I'm excited to figure it out as I go.
Some ideas that will definitely count:
- Publish a blog post
- Upload a "Moving Pictures" video
- Draw my own version of a transit map
- Assemble and/or paint miniatures for Star Wars Legion
- Cook a new recipe
- Record myself playing guitar
- Create personal notes for a software engineering trick I learned
- Write a session log after playing a video game
- Build a sand castle
- Send an open letter to a friend (like this one!!)
I'm in my late 20s, and this is actually the first time I've formally set a new year's resolution. And honestly, the thought of committing my Future Self to doing something every day for the next year is pretty daunting.
Nevertheless, I'm feeling excited! Historically, some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling experiences I've had in my life have come from making tangible things and sharing them with people.
Do you have any new year's resolutions?
Sincerely, Sam
P.S. I created a new bear blog page to have a centralized place to record the things Made by Sam.
